Michal Batory. French graphics raisedon polish yeast

Michal is undoubtedly one of the most recognised poster artists in France. He is one of the few aching to see the reflection of our world's state in posters, the most poetic and sensual among graphic artists. He was born in Lodz, Poland, where he later also studied at the National School of Arts. He moved to France In 1987, but got famous only after working with Theatre National de la Colline in Paris.

The concentration Michal reaches in his posters is rarely achieved by other graphic artists. Polish school is definitely felt in his work, but the laconic originality of images he creates makes them one of a kind whether it be for La Colline or later, for Ircam, Ensemble Intercontreporain, or today, for Theatre National de Chaillot (Paris), L'Arse —them we will find addiction to collage, symbolism and scale play joined with an exceptional feel for typography.

Batory's posters (which he's rather see on the streets than at the exhibitions and shows) lead the dialogue of their own with the viewer, whose reaction is very important to the artist. Michal owns quite large collection of prizes and awards, among them Grand Prix from the Cultural Poster Competition, 2nd Award in Chaumont'99. He also actively participates in professional events.
