Editor’s Letter

It is traditional to use big and meaninful words when talking about a jubilee, it's an important date. Tenth of a century, one sixth of a working life in Russia. Our magazine has turned 10 year old, thank God. In 1966, when this project was only starting, there was no commercial design in Russia. Now there's lots. Graphic design in 1996 was completely different, there was something romantic and mysterious about it, people lived and thought design. Today it has turned into a rigorous and loved profession to some, a market with it's shares and persentages, proffesional moves and price wars to others.

Life goes on, new issues of [kAk) will be published. Everything remains the same only people change a little. And I feel very content that all these years, whole 10 years, the magazine wrote and published interesting material and gave me and many others an opportuntity to meet so many wonderful people.

Everyone who works and worked for [kAk) are very different, similar ony in their pure altruism toward graphic design.

Indian design, saturated with culture of thousands was a big revelation, French —with their mementos of renaissance, colonial wars, when French world stood against Anglo-Saxons. I was very impressed with work from Iran, which feels completely different if looked trough a prism of graphic design. Total magic. Graphic design is doing miracles. We believe in it and, I hope, you will too.
