Karl Gerstner is a type of refined intellectual, the artist who gathered and systemized knowledge all his life. He devoted his life and energy to the study of colour as an instrument creative process. He wrote books about the connection of new art with typography, cooking, the theory of colour. He made typefaces. He compiled a large collection of his friends’ works. He gave lectures and was a chairman of a number of committees and organizations. Among the strata of his craftsmanship Swiss concrete art, urban ideas, changes in design connected with development of print technologies, experiments with the light and movement, science, psychology of colour perception can be articulated. He works with the surface very especially, maybe too logically and rationally. His works are considered to be very plane relief, on which layers of colour contour are superimposed. ![]()
